You can close your account with us at any time by simply requesting this in writing. We will check to make sure your account balance is cleared / zero, before we take this action. We will then send you an email to confirm we have closed your account.
We have two different ways to handle your request to close your account. Have a read and consider which one is best for your situation.
Freeze my account | Temporarily
The first option is that you apply a temporary freeze to your account. This means you will still have access to your account details online or in the app so that you can review past purchases and track payments for existing purchases. This could be useful when applying for a loan or mortgage. You could make a screenshot of this information and use it as evidence of your account history. If a financial institution would want to track your on-time payments, you could potentially show them your bank statements for your nominated card or debit card, as this will show payments made to Afterpay from your nominated card.
If you decide, after a period of closure, you wish to reopen your account you can simply ask us to 'lift the freeze' and you will be able to head off to the shops!
Close my account | Indefinitely
This option is long term. It will prevent you from being able to access your account. This would be the appropriate option for you if you never intend to use Afterpay again and you have no recent purchases that you wish to be able to track or monitor.
