Keeping track of your payments is now even easier - with our new payment setting “preferred payment day”. This lets you line up your scheduled payments to the day of the week that suits you, so you can plan more effectively, making it easier to shop and manage your payments. Enjoy the greater convenience of paying on a preferred day and reducing your payment reminders in the process.
How does it work?
Let’s say you choose Friday as your preferred payment day, and you make a purchase on a Monday. Your first instalment would be debited at the time of checkout, (on the Monday) and then each instalment thereafter would move to your preferred day - Friday. The overall ‘pay in 4’ schedule would increase by 4 days. For example:
- 1st instalment is debited at checkout on Monday.
- 2nd instalment due on your preferred day that is at least 2 weeks from the date of your order - i.e. on Friday, 18 days later in week 3
- 3rd instalment due a fortnight later on Friday, in week 5
- 4th instalment due on a fortnight later on Friday, in week 7
If your order is eligible for “No Payment Upfront”, your payments are a little different.
If a No Payment Upfront order is placed on a day that is not your preferred payment day, the first instalment will be due a minimum of 8 days, and a maximum of 14 days from the purchase date.
For example, if you have selected Friday as your preferred payment day, and you make an eligible purchase on a Monday, your payment schedule could look like:
- Purchase made on a Monday
- 1st instalment due on your preferred day that falls immediately after the date of your order plus 1 week - i.e. on Friday, 11 days later in week 2
- 2nd instalment due a fortnight later on Friday, in week 4
- 3rd instalment due a fortnight later on Friday, in week 6
- 4th instalment due a fortnight later on Friday, in week 8
To pick your day:
First make sure you’re on the latest version of the Afterpay app.
Go to Payment settings in the My Afterpay tab and tap Preferred payment day. You can then select any day of the week.
Once you've selected your preferred payment day, you'll receive an email confirmation. The next time you place an order, we'll automatically adjust all your scheduled payments to your preferred day for that order and any future orders.
If you do not select a preferred day when available, we will default your preferred payment day to a day we choose. Rest assured that you can change this to a different day at any time which will then apply for future orders.
Note: Any payments for existing orders will remain the same. If you need help with payments for your existing orders, you can contact us via our app.
If I change my mind, can I cancel my preferred payment day?
You can't turn preferred payment day off, but you can change your preferred day at any time.
Note: Any payments for existing orders will remain the same. If you need help with payments for your existing orders, you can contact us via our app
Is there a limit on changing my preferred payment day?
No, you have the flexibility to switch your preferred payment day as many times as you like.
