There are a few different reasons as to why your order could be declined.
You are a new customer of Afterpay:
If you have had your account for less than 6 weeks, we may limit you to a smaller number of purchases. Our restrictions are tighter when you first get started. This is to ensure that we are upholding our commitment to responsible spending.
What can I do?
- Try lowering your order amount if you are shopping with us for the first time. Whilst this is not a guarantee that your order will be approved, it is still a good starting point.
- Depending on how many orders you have placed, you may need to allow some time before you attempt to shop with us again. After the 6 weeks have passed, you may be able to spend more with us.
What has your recent order history been like?
Afterpay is passionate about ensuring that our customers use our service responsibly. If you have had recent late payments, this can impact your ability to shop with us.
What can I do?
- Ensure that your payments are paid on time. You may need to allow some time to build a positive repayment history with us again before you can place new orders.
- Think you’re going to be late with a payment? You may be able to extend the due date in your App! Alternatively, you can get in touch with us at least 24 hours before the due date so we can offer some help.
Check your card:
Your card is super important! There are a few things that you can double check if your order is being declined.
What can I do?
- Double check how much money you have in your bank account. You must have 25% of the purchase price available on your card for your order to be approved. For example, a $100 order would require $25 to be in your account.
- Is your card working as expected? Make sure to check that your card is active and unrestricted. If your bank has blocked your card, your order will not go through and Afterpay cannot override this! When in doubt, reach out to your bank to make sure.
