Marketing and Personalized Ads: Your Choices
Afterpay gives you choices about how your information is used for marketing and advertising. Depending on your settings, we may use information about your Afterpay activity to personalize ads for Afterpay and other brands in and outside of Afterpay, send you marketing emails, show you marketing in the Afterpay app (like push notifications), and tailor your experience using cookies and similar technologies.
You can update your preferences at any time using the options below. Changes may take a short time to apply across our systems, and we may still send you important non-marketing messages about your account, orders, and service updates.

Personalized ads setting
We’ve updated Afterpay’s Privacy Notice and updated this setting so you can control how your information is used for personalized advertising.
We may use your Afterpay information, such as your shopping, browsing, and account activity, to show you personalized ads for Afterpay and other brands in and outside of Afterpay, including on third-party partner websites or streaming services.
You can turn off personalized ads at any time using the Personalized ads setting. If you turn this setting off, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on your Afterpay information. For more details about how we use your information and your choices, please review our Privacy Notice.
How to change your Personalized ads setting
In the app:
- Open Afterpay
- Go to Account
- Select Communication settings
- Select Marketing Communications
- Toggle Personalized ads off
On the web:
- Sign in at https://www.afterpay.com
- Go to Account
- Select Preferences

Personalized ads FAQs
- Does Afterpay sell my data?
No. Afterpay does not sell your personal data to other brands. Brands only receive aggregated reports about how their ads performed, not information that identifies you.
To help show you personalized ads outside of Afterpay, we may share limited information with our advertising technology service providers. They are subject to contractual limitations on how they can use this information and are required to protect it. - Will I still see ads if I turn this off?
Yes. Turning off personalized ads stops us from tailoring ads to your Afterpay activity. You may still see ads in Afterpay, on partner websites, or on streaming services, but they will not be based on your Afterpay information or activity. It may take a short time for all systems to reflect your choice. - What information does Afterpay use for ads?
When personalizing ads outside Afterpay, we may use information such as contact information (like email or phone) and transaction activity to create audience segments. We do not use data relating to customers under 18 for personalized ads. - State-specific information
Customers in certain states may have the Personalized ads setting turned off by default, based on applicable state law(s). If your setting is turned off by default and you want to see personalized ads, you can turn this setting on at any time. - I already turned this off. Do I need to do anything?
No action needed. If you previously turned off Personalized ads, you remain opted out after this update. You can confirm (or change) this anytime in the Afterpay app:
Account > Communication settings > Marketing Communications > Personalized ads
Marketing emails
If you signed up to receive marketing emails from us, you can opt in or out at any time.
- Unsubscribe from an email: Every marketing email includes an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. Select it and follow the steps to stop receiving marketing emails.
- A note about tracking in emails: Some marketing emails may include tracking technologies that help us understand whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. We use this to measure performance and improve our communications. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email.

- Update your preference under Marketing emails
- Update your preference in the app:

- Select Marketing Communications
- Toggle Marketing emails on or off
Marketing push notifications (in-app marketing)
You can choose whether you want to receive marketing push notifications on your mobile device.
To manage push notifications in the app:
- Open Afterpay
- Go to Account
- Select Communication settings
- Under Marketing Communications, toggle Push notifications on or off
Note: If push notifications are disabled in your phone’s system settings, you will not receive them.
Location tracking for personalization and marketing
If you have enabled location access for personalization and marketing, you can change your location permissions at any time in your device settings.
If you turn off location access, we may still collect and process location information for other purposes where permitted.
Cookies
Cookies are small data files stored on your browser or device. They may be set by Afterpay (first-party cookies) or by third parties, such as our digital partners (third-party cookies). Similar technologies may also be used for related purposes.
Afterpay and our digital partners may use cookies to personalize your experience and, where permitted, to help deliver and measure ads.
