What is Pulse Rewards?
Pulse Rewards is a new kind of loyalty program that rewards Afterpay customers for spending responsibly and making payments on-time.
With Pulse Rewards, eligible on-time payments earn points, which unlock tiers and corresponding benefits. The tier benefits include offers from our top merchants and exclusive Afterpay perks!
We want you to get more of what you love with the flexibility to do so on your own terms. That’s why we created Pulse Rewards.
Who can join Pulse Rewards?
Great news - it’s really easy! If you already shop with Afterpay, all you need to do is 1) open the Afterpay app and 2) tap join. (Eligibility criteria and T&Cs apply)
Once you have joined the program, you will be able to participate immediately.
Pulse Rewards is only available in the Afterpay app and it requires mobile app version 1.36.0 (minimum).
How do I join Pulse Rewards?
It’s easy! Download or open the Afterpay mobile app and click on the Rewards tab.
Then you will see a screen with a button that says Join for free. Simply click that button and you are in! That’s all you have to do.
Pulse Rewards is only available in the Afterpay app.
Note: This screen may look a little different for you. The Afterpay automatically looks at your Afterpay account history and shows you what tier and what benefits you will unlock when you opt-in, based on your payment history if applicable. In the example below, this customer had unlocked our Mint tier, which is the highest tier with the most benefits available.
How do I earn points in the Pulse Rewards program?
The Pulse Rewards program is a new kind of program that rewards Afterpay users for spending responsibly and making payments on-time. Every time you make an eligible on-time payment, you will earn 10 points. Plus, look out for other opportunities to earn extra points in the app! Your points accumulate over a 6-month eligibility period. You will have a unique eligibility period based on when you joined Pulse Rewards.
- Each eligible on-time payment = 10 points
- Each Afterpay purchase has 4 payments, so each purchase has the potential to earn 40 points if the payments are eligible.
Eligible payments are payments that are made on-time on orders equal to or over $40 in the US. As long as your payments are eligible and you have not exceeded the maximum amount of late payments allowed, you will earn points. (See more information under “Will I ever lose my tier eligibility?”)
For example, let’s say you make 1 purchase with Afterpay. This purchase will have 4 payments. Each time you make an on-time payment you will earn 10 points.
- If you make all 4 payments on-time for this purchase, you will have earned 40 points!
Now let’s say that over a 6-month period you make 3 total purchases with Afterpay. Each of these 3 purchases have 4 payments, for a total of 12 payments.
- If you make all 12 payments on-time, you will have earned 120 points (10 points per payment x 12 payments)!
Keep spending responsibly and watch your Pulse Rewards points start to accumulate! You can always see how many points you have earned by checking the Pulse Rewards dashboard in the Afterpay app, accessible from the 'Rewards' tab. Please note that sometimes points take 1-2 days to appear.
Are there any additional ways to earn points in the Pulse Rewards program besides through on-time payments?
Yes! In addition to every eligible on-time payment earning 10 points, there are other ways to earn points. Look for more information about these extra points opportunities in the Pulse Rewards dashboard (scroll to the bottom).
What is my eligibility period for earning points?
Joined Pulse Rewards prior to June 23rd, 2021
If you joined Pulse Rewards prior to June 23rd, 2021, your eligibility periods remain the same and will not change from January 1 to June 30 and July 1 to December each calendar year.
Joined Afterpay before June 23rd, 2021 and Pulse Rewards after June 23rd, 2021
If you joined Afterpay before June 23rd, 2021 and Pulse Rewards after June 23rd, 2021, then your eligibility period will start on the first day of the month of June and will end 6 months after that date.
- Here’s an example: If you created an Afterpay account on May 1, 2021 and then joined Pulse Rewards on September 1, 2021, then your eligibility periods are June 1 to November 30 and December 1 to May 31.
Joined Afterpay and Pulse Rewards after June 23rd, 2021
If you joined Afterpay [Clearpay] and Pulse Rewards after June 23rd, 2021, your eligibility periods need a slightly longer explanation. Let us break it down for you.
When you join Pulse Rewards, we will look back to the date when you first created your Afterpay account and the 1st day of that month will be the start of your eligibility period. It’s pretty cool because we look at your past Afterpay activity and automatically place you in the correct tier. If you have already been making on-time eligible payments, we want to ensure that this is recognized!
- Here’s an example: If you created an Afterpay account on July 15 and then joined Pulse Rewards on August 15, your eligibility period starts on July 1. Your eligibility periods will be July 1 to December 31 and January 1 to June 30.
- Any points earning activity between July 15 and August 15 will be acknowledged!
- Here’s another example: If you created an Afterpay account on August 6 and a Pulse Rewards account on September 30, your eligibility period starts on August 1. Your eligibility periods will be August 1 to January 31 and February 1 to July 31.
- Any points earning activity between August 6 and September 30 will be acknowledged!
What are the benefits of the Pulse Rewards program?
See the table below to understand which benefits are available for each tier.
Always refer to the Pulse Rewards dashboard in the Pulse app to find your current tier and corresponding unlocked benefits. (The Pulse Rewards dashboard can be found on the Profile tab in the Afterpay app).
How can I use points in the Pulse Rewards program?
Points are used to unlock tiers and the benefits within the tiers. As soon as you earn enough points to move into a higher tier (i.e. from Gold to Platinum), the benefits of that next tier will be unlocked immediately.
Always refer to the Pulse Rewards dashboard in the Pulse app to find your current tier and corresponding unlocked benefits. (The Pulse Rewards dashboard can be found on the Profile tab in the Afterpay app).
Will I ever lose my points?
Yes, points reset every 6 months. Points are earned throughout a 6-month eligibility period. As soon as you earn enough points to unlock a tier, the benefits in that tier are available to you for the remainder of your 6-month eligibility period AND the next 6-month eligibility period. This means the earlier in the 6-months you unlock benefits, the longer you get to keep them.
- Let’s think about it like this...If you start earning points on January 1, you will have until June 30 to earn points (current 6-month eligibility period) to unlock benefits until December 31 (next 6-month eligibility period). Let’s say by March 1, you have earned 100 points and unlocked Platinum status. You now have Platinum status until December 31 (as long as you do not exceed the maximum number of late payments). Congrats!
- In the same example, your 100 points will reset to 0 points on July 1 (end of the 6-month eligibility period), but you will keep your Platinum status for the next 6-months or until December 31 (as long as you do not exceed the maximum number of late payments).
The Pulse Rewards dashboard in the Afterpay app will do all the math for you! At any time, just check the dashboard to see how many points you have earned, your current tier, how many points you need until the next benefit and when the last day to unlock rewards is (the date when your 6-month eligibility period ends.) We’ve got your back!
Will I ever lose my tier eligibility?
Each tier is unlocked by earning points every 6-months. You need to earn enough points to unlock a tier before the 6-months eligibility period ends and your points are reset to 0. Your points will reset to 0 every 6-months. Once you unlock a tier, you will keep that tier for the next 6-month eligibility period.
If you do not earn enough points to maintain your tier status, then you will move to a lower tier in the next subsequent eligibility period. Gold is the lowest tier available.
There is another way to lose your tier eligibility. If your points have unlocked a tier higher than Gold, you can lose your tier benefits if you make too many late payments. If you exceed the number of late payments allowed, you will be moved back to the Gold tier.
Once you move back to Gold tier after making too many late payments, you will be unable to earn points until the next eligibility period.
In the US, only 1 late payment is allowed. If you make 2 late payments, you will be moved back to the Gold tier.
When my points reset, will I lose my tier?
Not necessarily. Your tier is based on your behavior from the previous 6 months. As long as you made enough on-time payments in the previous 6 months to earn enough points, you will remain in that tier.
- For example, if you made 10 on-time payments from January 1st through June 30th, you will have earned 100 points. On July 1, your points will reset to 0, but you will be in Platinum based on your behavior from the previous 6 months.
When you unlock a tier, the benefits of that tier will remain unlocked for at least 6 months (longer if you unlocked the tier earlier in your 6-month eligibility period). The only way you will lose your tier is if you make too many late payments. Please use Afterpay responsibly and make on time payments.
Why am I currently in a tier when I currently do not have enough points? For example, is it possible to have 0 points and be in the Platinum tier?
Your tier eligibility is determined by your behavior from the previous 6 months. If you earned 100 points in the last 6-month eligibility period, you will have unlocked Platinum even after your points reset to 0.
In this example, if you want to maintain Platinum for the next 6-month period, simply earn 100 points. You will always find the last day to earn points in the Pulse Rewards dashboard under “last day to unlock rewards.”
Think about it this way - your current points will always be applied to the next 6-month period. So by making eligible on-time payments today, you are actually setting yourself up for future benefits. (Your future self says thank you!)
How do I keep my unlocked tier in subsequent eligibility periods?
Easy! As long as you keep making eligible on-time payments, you will continue to earn points (10 points per eligible on-time payment). Your points will add up and as soon as you earn enough points to unlock a new tier, the benefits will immediately become available to you. The tier will remain unlocked until the end of the next 6-month period.
What Terms and Conditions govern Pulse Rewards?
By joining Pulse Rewards, you agree that you have read and agree to be bound by the Afterpay Terms of Service, Pulse Rewards T&Cs and the Afterpay Privacy Policy and any changes we may make in accordance with Pulse Rewards T&Cs.
Who can activate?
If you are new to the Mint Tier and want to use the “no payment upfront” benefit, you will need to switch it on in the Afterpay app by clicking the “Pay nothing up front” button under “Mint Benefits” section in the Rewards tab.
Is there a limit to NPUF orders?
Yes, the ability to make no payment upfront on orders will only apply to orders that are worth $400 or less (including any applicable taxes and delivery charges). The “no payment upfront” benefit won’t be available for orders that are worth more than $400.
Do my benefits and points have any cash value?
Points and benefits earned through Pulse Rewards have no cash value, are non transferable and are not directly exchangeable under any circumstances for cash.
Do I have to make my first payment for gift cards if I’m eligible for the ‘no payment upfront’ benefit?
Yes, when you buy gift cards, the first payment is due at checkout. This is because the ‘no payment upfront’ benefit cannot be applied on purchases of gift cards.
I made a recent eligible on-time payment, why do I not see the points reflected in my Pulse Rewards dashboard?
The dashboard sometimes has a delay of 1-2 days to refresh. Check back soon to see your new points reflected. Thanks for your patience!
