WHICH CARDS DOES AFTERPAY ACCEPT?
We accept credit and debit cards from Mastercard and Visa which were issued in your country of residence.
We do not accept foreign issued cards for overseas banks or pre-paid cards.
HOW CAN I PAY?
Afterpay accepts payments from debit and credit cards from Mastercard and Visa which have been issued in your country of residence.
There are two basic ways to pay with these cards:
The most convenient is our automatic payments system. Just go on the App or online and enter the details of your preferred payment card under "Add a payment method" in the "Billings" section of "My Account"
When you have an instalment due, we will notify you beforehand so that way you can make sure that there is enough in your account for that instalment. We do the rest.
Alternatively, you can always make payments on time or early by selecting the PAY NOW button on the App or online in your account. You can then enter your card details manually. If you want to make this your preferred payment method, select "Store my card", otherwise make sure to untick this option before logging out.
Please note that we cannot accept payments by BPAY, Bank Transfer or Pre-Paid cards.
You can pay less that the instalment amount at any time see this article Can I pay less than the full instalment amount?
WHEN WILL MY FIRST PAYMENT BE TAKEN?
Now more than ever, we want to encourage people to think about their budget and spend responsibly. When you make a purchase through Afterpay, unless otherwise advised, you will be required to make your first repayment (25% of the price) upfront.
DOES AFTERPAY HAVE AN AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS SYSTEM?
To make it easy for you to stick to your payment plan, Afterpay provides automatic payments.
This means we take your next instalment from your preferred card on the due date. We will always send you reminders before an instalment is due, so you just need to make sure that there is enough in your account for that instalment and we do the rest.
If an automatic payment fails, we'll try and collect your instalment from any other cards you may have on your account.
If your payment is still outstanding then you'll be charged a late fee. If you're worried you won't be able to make a payment, get in touch and we will try to sort something out.
Alternatively, you can always make payments manually on time or early - by clicking on the PAY NOW button in your account online or in the App. You can even pay less than the full instalment amount at any time see this article for more information
WHY HAVE YOU TAKEN 2 PAYMENTS FROM MY ACCOUNT?
Sometimes we run a pre-authorisation check where we temporarily hold a small amount from your account - up to the value of your first instalment (plus 1 cent) for online purchases and up to 25% (plus 1 cent) of the value of your in-store barcode to make sure your nominated card is working right.
Once this check is approved, we instruct the bank to void the transaction. Sometimes it might appear on your account as a second payment.
Don't worry though - it is not a second payment and it will be resolved on your account shortly. If you have any trouble, please contact us here.
WHAT HAPPENS IF AN AUTOMATIC PAYMENT FAILS?
We will send you an SMS and email letting you know an automatic payment has failed.
To make an overdue payment you can log in to your App or online and click PAY NOW next to your "overdue payment" in your "payment schedule" - just follow the prompts.
If you're worried you won't be able to make a payment, get in touch ASAP and we'll try and sort something out.
CAN I MAKE AN EARLY REPAYMENT
Yes!
The PAY NOW button in your account lets you make a payment any time before an instalment is due, but your remaining instalments dates will stay the same - unless you request to move these dates.
If you would like to bring your instalment dates forward, you can submit your request here but it has to be more than 24 hours before an instalment is due.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CARD IS LOST AND STOLEN?
First of all, we can help.
If you have a payment due with us we can take it from any alternative cards stored on your account. If your lost or stolen card is the only one on our system but you do have another card, you can add this extra card to the system and we can take your payment from that one.
You can update your payment details in the App or online by logging onto "my account" and then "add payment method" in the "billing" section.
You can select "preferred card" if you want to use this one for future transactions. Alternatively, you can click PAY NOW and use this card as a once off - just remember to unclick "store for future payments".
Once you have found your card again or received a new one, you can update the details of your preferred card in your account via the App or website, by following the instructions above.
If you've got a payment coming up but you don't have any way to pay - get in touch with us here and we'll try to sort something out.
DOES PAYING EARLY IMPACT MY ACCOUNT?
You can pay off all of your instalments early one after the other - but each payment must be one instalment at a time. This way you always know how much is outstanding and you can stay in control of your money.
Over time our system will get to know your ability to repay and paying on time or early will help increase your spending limits.
Remember, if you don't want to log on to pay an instalment, our automated system will collect the money from your account on the due date. Just make sure there is enough money in there for that instalment and we can take it from there.
WHY DOESN'T AFTERPAY OFFER EXTENDED REPAYMENT PLANS?
We keep our instalment plans short and fixed to make sure everyone stays in control of their money.
By giving everyone four instalments every two weeks, you know exactly what you need to do to stick to your plan when you make a purchase.
This way we work with customers to make sure everyone buys what they can afford. Of course you can pay early using the PAY NOW option on your account.
If you think you will have trouble making a payment and have some concerns reach out to us here for a chat, and we’ll see how we can help.
CAN I CHANGE THE DATE OF MY NEXT PAYMENT?
We have recently introduced a new feature which give some flexibility and control so that you can change the due date of your next payment see this article self service change payment due date.
