We’re always looking for ways to enhance the experience of our Afterpay customers. To support this, we’re updating our Terms of Service.
The updated Terms of Service will be effective for all Afterpay customers on 1 March 2021. By continuing to use your Afterpay account on and from this date, you are agreeing to the updated Terms of Service.
Updates to the Afterpay Terms of Service include:
- Restructuring the layout of the terms so they are easier to read
- Updating our terms to incorporate both our existing product features and new features to come (e.g. launch of Afterpay Card in-store)
- Updates to reflect our customer commitments as part of the new Code of Practice for Buy Now Pay Later Providers
- Better explaining our process to customers when they have questions or need assistance with their Afterpay purchases
- Making it clear that the only fees which may apply are late fees
- Updates to accurately reflect our ongoing processes

I’m an existing Afterpay customer and created my account before 1 March 2021. What do I need to do to continue using my Afterpay account?
All of our existing Afterpay customers will be asked to read and accept the updated Terms of Service on 1 March 2021 before continuing to use their Afterpay account. By continuing to use your Afterpay account on and from this date, you are agreeing to the updated Terms of Service. If you do not agree to the updated Terms of Service, we will provide you with information on how to close your Afterpay account and manage any outstanding payments/orders you have. I created my Afterpay account on or after 1 March 2021. What do I need to do to continue using my Afterpay account?
Nothing! When creating your Afterpay account on or after this date, you would have already agreed to the updated Terms of Service, which will apply to your use of the Afterpay service.
What terms apply to my existing Afterpay purchases?
All Afterpay purchases made on or after 1 March 2021 will be subject to the updated Terms of Service where you have agreed to them.
If you do not agree to the updated Terms of Service, the prior version of the Terms of Service will apply to all Afterpay purchases made before 1 March 2021, including any instalments to be paid after this date which relate to purchases made before 1 March 2021. To continue using the Afterpay service to make purchases from this date, you will need to agree to the updated Terms of Service.
I have an Afterpay account from another country outside of Australia. Do these updated terms apply to me?
No, these updated Terms of Service apply to Afterpay’s Australian customers only and do not impact Afterpay customers who have opened accounts in other countries.
