The short answer is that we cannot manually increase your estimated spend limit, as it is automatically determined based on a range of different factors. Afterpay will never send you an SMS or email offering you a limit increase. Please watch out for spam messages.
Here are a few of the key factors that we take into consideration when determining your limit:
Payment history
Your payment history is one of the most important factors when determining how much you can spend with us. We want to make sure that you are spending responsibly, so late payments can significantly impact your ability to shop with us.
If you have had late payments on your account, the only way to increase your limit is with time and positive payment history moving forward. In time, you may notice that your limit increases!
To avoid making late payments in future, you can extend some payment due dates by using your App, otherwise by getting in touch with us at least 24 hours before the payment is due. Only one payment can be moved per order. If you require financial hardship assistance, please contact us to discuss our open and accommodating financial hardship program.
How long you’ve been a customer with us
We have a commitment to responsible spending, and if you are a brand new customer with Afterpay, you will start off with a lower limit. As we get to know you and see positive payment history, you may notice that your limit increases.
Have you had any declined orders or payments?
If you have tried to place an order or make a payment, but the order/payment has been declined due to insufficient funds on your card, you may notice a decrease in your estimated spend limit. We want to act responsibly, and if this happens, the best thing to do is to ensure that you have at least 25% of the value of the order on your card at the time of purchase or payment.
As long as you keep paying your payments on time, you may notice that your limit increases over time.
